This is a more design-based project than my usual work, and came about from an idea I had while playing with some magnets.
A mains powered, synchronous clock mechanism is hidden behind a piece of wood and strong magnets are attached to the clock hands. Two small, magnetic model animals (a fox and a hare) are placed on the front of the wood and are held in place by the magnets on the other side. As the clock hands behind the wood move, the figures follow them, and appear to magically circle around the wooden base of their own accord. A model tree is positioned at three o’clock to add to the scene and make it a little easier to tell the time. The hare also passes behind the tree as it makes its way around the clock face.
The magnets and clock mechanism are strong enough that the clock can be vertically wall-mounted.
